Raphaël Laloy
"Deep"
21.05-04.06.2016

Laupäeval, 21. mail kell 17:00 avatakse Kopli ja Ristiku tänava nurgal uus näitus Rundumi Showcase’i seeriast. Koordinaadid: 59°26'53.9" N 24°42'43.1"E
Kevadise Showcase’i näituseprogrammi kuraatoriks on kunstnik Camille Laurelli, kes esitleb Prantsuse kunstnike teoseid. Viiendaks Camille poolt kureeritud näituseks on Raphaël Laloy’ projekt nimega "Deep".

“The Deep Series” on Raphaël’ viis kasutada Google’i Deep Dream’i - vahendit, mis on loodud tuvastamaks tehisintellekti abil seda, mida kujutised sisaldavad.

Alates 2011. aastast toetab teda Smirnov & Sorokin’i fond.

2016. aasta Showcase kevadprogrammi kureerib Prantsuse kunstnik Camille Laurelli.

Press release

Raphaël Laloy
"Deep"
21.05-04.06.2016

On Saturday, 21th of May at 5pm a new exhibition of Rundum Showcase series will be opened on the corner of Kopli and Ristiku Street.
Coordinates: 59°26'53.9" N 24°42'43.1"E
The spring program of Rundum showcase is curated by artist Camille Laurelli who is presenting works by French artists. The fifth showcase curated by Laurelli will feature a work called "Deep" by Raphaël Laloy. The exhibition will be open until 04.06.2016.

From a peeled lemon picture encountered on the internet one day, the discomfort of watching the fruit in a way he was never supposed to see in the context of his use of lemons became the starting point of his work. He uses his computer and other tools in an unusual manner, in a way that it was not designed for in order to produce various results, trying to give the viewer a peeled lemon, something unusual but not that unfamiliar as well.

The Deep Series” is his way of using Google's Deep Dream, a tool made from the research to improve the ability to identify what images contain by AI. The program transforms the image gradually until it is able to find something similar from what it already knows. Raphaël challenges it to recognize things from plain pictures and abstract patterns.

Raphaël Laloy (FR) graduated from Grenoble Art High School (2015), works and lives in Grenoble. He works around the concepts of misuse and the culture of errors.

Camille Laurelli (FR) is a french artist currently living and working in Tallinn. Graduated from Annecy Higher Art School (2014) from the program of Art Research PhD and from Grenoble Higher Art School (2005). He is supported by the Smirnov & Sorokin foundation (since 2011). He founded and curated the OUI Art Center from 2007 to 2014 and he is curating Galerie Showcase in Grenoble since 2013.

Showcase is an exhibition space in a display-case style of a box. It’s mobile and flexible both in terms of location and the participating artists. Via the Showcase Rundum actively relates to various public places both in Tallinn and Estonia in general. The idea of Showcase previously belonged to the Czech artist grouping PAS (Production of Contemporary Activities), who used a case as an alternative project space that offered artists a possibility to try out different ways of exhibiting art, to relate to various social environments, and to work with the topic of occupying public space. Rundum is responsible for the communication, documentation and management of the Showcase. During the spring period of 2016 the showcase is being curated by French artist Camille Laurelli.
